Khmer in bones, cottage in spirit — a countryside retreat in Kep

Cottage · English, Khmer, German · Since 2016

National park backyard Three hectares of land with Kep National Park right behind us.
A retreat to slow down Yoga, meditation, silence trekking and mindful, unhurried days.
Locally owned & guided Run by a certified Cambodian guide with 18 years in tourism.

In the French-colonial glory days, Kep was where Phnom Penh’s elite escaped to breathe the sea air. Kep Cottage brings that spirit home — a small, unhurried Khmer house reimagined with the coziness of a countryside cottage.

The name borrows two ideas at once: ផ្ទះ, the Khmer word for home, rooted in Kep’s own architecture and rhythm of life — and “cottage”, the English word for a small, welcoming house built for rest rather than show. One word came from home, the other from a friend’s visit abroad, and the realization that both cultures were describing the same feeling: a small house, done with care, meant for slowing down. Kep Cottage sits at that meeting point — Khmer in bones, cottage in spirit.

Privately and locally owned, Kep Cottage offers the authentic Kep to local and international travellers alike. We have five Khmer-style houses set across three hectares of land, with Kep National Park as our backyard and around one hectare of front garden for tours, gatherings and complete relaxation.

Our mission is to transform this space into one that offers the highest quality of well-being to our guests. Our vision is to create a tranquil retreat where you can disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with yourself through rest, nature and mindful experiences — a peaceful escape centred on digital detox, holistic wellness and simple, grounding activities such as yoga, meditation and therapeutic healing.

Wath · Owner & certified guide

Wath has spent 18 years in tourism. It began with his first job in hospitality, where he spent three to four years learning every role in a hotel. Meeting guests and sharing the rich culture of Cambodia, he found his true passion — guiding travellers around his home of Siem Reap. In 2011 he became a certified Cambodian tour guide and founded his own travel company, To Asia Travel Co., Ltd.

Over those 18 years he has guided more than 1,100 groups across Cambodia — Angkor Wat, cycling and trekking adventures, food journeys, educational tours and once-in-a-lifetime private experiences.

His love for Kep began long before Kep Cottage. Fifteen years ago, while leading a cycling group through Kep, he fell for the area — and the dream of one day welcoming guests here stayed with him. The first in his family to finish high school and go to university, Wath's curiosity for culture and language led him to learn English and German.
